Incision
- Another term for a cut, often used to refer to a cut in surgery.

Inguinal
- Refers to the groin.

Injury
- Can mean an unhealthy state, a state of fitness, or something necessary for the occurrence of something else.

Intestine
- The organ in the abdomen that is the final site in the digestive process. There term "intestine" includes both the small and the large intestines.

Incarcerated
- Refers to a hernia that cannot be reduced. Also known as non-reducible.

Incisional Hernia
- A hernia occurring at the site of a previous surgical cut.

Indirect Inguinal Hernia
- Occurs at the opening of the inguinal canal in the groin area and is the most common type of inguinal hernia.

Inguinal Canal
- A naturally occurring canal in the groin area. Hernias can form here.

Intra-Abdominal
- On the inside of the abdomen.

Indirect Hernia
- Occurs at the internal inguinal ring. This is the opening in the abdominal wall where the spermatic cord contains structures that go from the abdomen to the scrotum. The structures in the spermatic cord include the vas deferens, nerves, arteries, and the veins to the testicles. These hernias have a sac, which often bulges and causes pain as the sac becomes pinched. Indirect inguinal hernias can be caused by an increase in intra-abdominal pressure during strenuous activities like lifting heavy objects, or they can be congenital.

- Atypical connections and passages between the intestines and other organs.
